Okay...the Crazy Homeworld Portrait 1 piece I recently posted shows just how exasperated I was getting with drawing this particular character right. He's the "bad guy" in the RTS game Homeworld 2. A Warlord of a space-faring race of fighters from the Outer Rim of the Homeworld Galaxy.
THIS is my one successful attempt--besides a few comical pictures involving a Viking Beer-Drinking Helmet--that I feel got his face and appearance right. The V logo is from the Vaygr fleet badges in Homeworld 2's single and multiplayer setups. It was the default logo for their ships, and obviously, the logo that needed to be on his uniform. Because there were hints that the word Vaygr was based off a Russian word for Viking, I had the feeling that he should have blonde hair and blue eyes. Hence why he looks the way he does.
Yes there are a few Darth Vader homages in the use of black and red the way I did that. How could I not? He's having a "I find your lack of faith disturbing" moment there.
This is somewhat WIP in that I need to put an energy field around his sword, and come up with a background that doesn't feel half-assed. But the character himself is as done as I'm ever gonna get him.
Oh yeah...and something else that's bugging me. I'm almost positive I've seen that face somewhere before on some actor. If anybody has an "OMG I RECOGNIZE HIM" moment, please, PLEASE tell me who it is, because I have gone nearly crazy from trying to remember who it was?! Thank you.
I did this in a more comic-book style, but I still consider this more or less painted in a digital sense. Done in periods of 2-3 hours over 2 days to do completely right with all the tweaks. Drawn and painting with Aiptek 9 by 11 digital tablet and pen on Photoshop 7.0.
Homeworld, Homeworld 2, and all characters, ships, and whatnot are copyright Relic Entertainment and Vivendi Universal.
By the way, something that's been bugging me... in this old RPG, Traveller/Mega-Traveller (awesome skiffy RPG, by the way) there's a wolflike race called the Vargyr. Hmm. And it's similar.... that's alll.... heh.
Well the word "Varyag" or something came up on well-of-souls.com's Homeworld Shipyards area as the Russian reference to Viking raiders. I suspect Relic jumped on that VERY quickly, and came up with their race of space Vikings from there.
