You Screwed It, Smith. by DeepChrome You Screwed It, Smith. by DeepChrome
SHODAN's got 99 problems on her wall, and you losing to an insect is half of 'em, Smithy boy.

I updated her boss fight form a little. I managed to get a closer look at the model over on systemshock.org one time, and decided the dress was kind of hideous and wouldn't allow her to do a good kung-fu smackdown. I imagine her martial arts style to be like an Agent's but hella more brutal.

I had to pick only one category for the Fanart as I could've picked either Games or Movies, but given SHODAN is known from Games, I went with that.

I'm guessing this is a bit of hypocritical humor, seeing as SHODAN was defeated not once, but twice by "puny insects". And probably would have been defeated a third time if the proposed System Shock 3 wasn't transformed into Bioshock. Though I realize that it's needless to say that SHODAN's ego and god complex wouldn't recognize her own failures. She at least acknowledges that they happened, but not that she f*cked up in any way. After all, she is a "perfect immortal machine".

Yeah, she's got a rather massive blind spot there. >_> And probably would try to deny, misdirect, and explain away the mistakes as anything but.

That's one of the few things that GLaDOS has in common with her. I'd still like to see a comic with GlaDOS mocking her stutter. It's been months since the last comedic comic. GLaDOS: "If you're such a 'perfect immortal machine' then why do you sound like a broken record?" Also I have to admit that I dislike the whole fanned out hairstyle she has here. I just want to see more of GLaDOS and SHODAN. And I mean drawings where SHODAN does something other than look pretty.

I prefer SHODAN with long moving wire hair but sometimes the fan comes in handy - when I don't want to draw out how 500 cables are moving when she's moving. :D

And she's not in it to look pretty for you or anybody but herself. Just saying. :D And apparently you seemed to miss that she was wiping the floor with an Agent who damn near killed Neo in hand-to-hand before he got his whole I'm the One thing figured out. Smith is no slouch, and I always figured SHODAN would have loaded every. single. hand-to-hand. technique. ever. to. exist. and would absolutely reduce you to a bloody paste if you pissed her off.

As for mocking her stutter, that's totally fair game for GLaDOS.

The problem comes that SHODAN can get rid of the stutter. See: Janice Polito. See: her Voice Actor, Terri Brosius is a singer in her husband's band Tribe. So like Ellen McLain with GLaDOS, I have a feeling that if someone ticked SHODAN off about the stutter and then proceeded to do a sing-off, they'd find themselves rather shocked when she gets going with the kind of vocal control she actually DOES have. (I have always had the headcanon that she LIKES sounding more like a machine with a voice bent enough to cause nightmares. That way nobody assumes she's human-thinking. Seems to work well...)

That means that she's open to GLaDOS implying that the stuttering voice makes her sound broken or, *gasp*, badly programmed! Which would allow SHODAN to prove that shecan speak just fine, and twist the knife by bringing up GLaDOS's weight issues. "And she's not in it to look pretty for you or anybody but herself. Just saying." That just makes SHODAN dolling herself up in Mocking SHODAN even funnier by adding an element of denial. "I have re-re-refurbished my android avvaataaar solely for personal purposesssss. The sixty-sixty-sixty perceeent impoooovement in it's seduuuuctive capabilities is a meeeere secooondary bene-bene-benefit to my woooork." Just try not to hear that statement in her voice. I dare you. GLaDOS could also mention how her overly-verbose way of speaking coupled with her stuttering voice makes her take like five minutes to explain a simple errand. I think I can explain SHODAN's Polito voice. She emulates the deceased Polito's voice by emulating Polito's vocal patterns via Polito's audio messages, because I doubt the three messages you find are the only ones Polito recorded. She was the head scientist aboard the Von Braun, after all. I still think there should be more comedic material featuring SHODAN. While it may be easier to do a comedic comic featuring GLaDOS due to the more comedic nature of her games, it'd still be nice to see more stuff with SHODAN doing more than standing and looking pretty.

Yeah I'm with you on the Polito thing - SHODAN probably had access to a lot of the logs. The problem is a few people have pointed out that SHODAN-Polito doesn't quite sound like the actual Polito in the logs?

I'm all for seeing more comedic stuff, but these days the kind of comedy I draw SHODAN being involved in has her as more the troll and/or troublemaker as opposed to someone else. I had one of someone's concept of her in an 8-foot tall construct with 15 feet of wire hair tying Goggles up by it and smirking over their condition the other day. Another had her egging on a psi-monkey into doing a little voodoo doll torture of Goggles. And one threatening to kill the Hacker for putting pizza and soda into one of her keyboards. So most times, she's the dangerous element, not the one getting mocked. :D

And my idea of pretty for her is a gynoid that isn't interpreted as human even remotely and that you'd have to be dumber than Wheatley to mistake her for such. So no worries about her "looking pretty" - all my concepts of her have nasty claw-tipped fingers, and could probably bash a grown man through a wall single-handedley. My preference is "pretty and deadly as hell." She's no fun when she's just pretty.

Maybe that's because her voice synthesizers can't quite duplicate a human voice. I doubt that they're intended to create a realistic human voice. SHODAN has the benefit of Goggles' memory loss taking way any memory of talking to Polito to begin with.  It was probably intended as a subtle clue that something wasn't right with Polito. Would she still be the dangerous element when she's in Aperture Science? SHODAN was at her most dangerous when she had control over the Von Braun (and that bit of reality to boot). Would she be quite so dangerous if she was in an environment she didn't control? Plus you've already got an established troll in GLaDOS, so what could you do to distinguish her from GLaDOS? Is she the more controlling and threatening one? This calls for another AI to react to their antics with deadpan exasperation. I nominate HAL. I'm guessing he'd look like a young Douglas Rain.  The more comedic material calls for the same sort of art style your comedic GLaDOS stuff is in. My ideal aesthetic for comedic SHODAN would be something combining elements of "Shock and Awe" and "Someone Is Going To Die". With the outfit and height of S&A plus the hair of SIGTD. Pus I think that long straight cable hair makes more sense than the fan, because she could make tendrils out of it.

Only now I realize she's fighting Agent Smith.

Oh. Now the title makes sense.

:D

She was MOST displeased at Neo defeating him. Especially after all his fantastic talk about despising humans.

Oddly I think he's a bit more SHODANian in his behavior in the later movies - particularly Revolutions. Reaaaallly didn't like uploading into the one guy. I guess Bane and Rebecca Siddons could have a nice chat there. >_>;;

Heh.

Mine went through some designing, and at the height of my GLaDOS fandom, I constantly designed new humanizations for her, even if I had a main one. I think it's a running habit of GLaDOS fanartists. XD;

Thank you! I was hoping people would read the poses clearly enough. (I've had trouble with that sort of thing before, and I always hope I've made it look readable enough...)

I had this pretty much in my head, so I knew what poses I was going at when I drew it. It came together pretty easily - the biggest challenge was making sure the kick and Smith's double-back looked connected enough visually to show the force of the blow. That's where the smashed sunglasses came in handy - given Neo did that to him twice in the trilogy and it was always a "You've met your math, Smith" moment when he does that.
