It's been entirely ENTIRELY too long since I posted a new journal.

I'm still mostly on Tumblr, so you'll find more of my art and Portal fanart on there than here. I'm very active on Tumblr, and I have an artblog I'm trying to fill with assorted pieces.

I'm now trying to creep back into fractal art, as Apophysis 7x seems to work fine with Windows 8.

I have just one problem.

I lost ALL of my old parameters from ages ago. Some computer crash, and quitting Apo. The hard-drive that even had the params was completely toasted, and I wasn't the least into fractal art at the time, so I wasn't keen on getting them back. But now, I'm just staring stupidly at my really awesome stained-glass ones and going "Oh. Shit." The ones I REALLY want most is the set I handed out in Aposhack ages ago for my piece RADIANCE, and while I managed to look up that it was made using the Lazysusan variation (which thank god, the default plugins HAS), I have completely lost almost every other fractal-making memory. :dead: To make matters worse I'm pretty sure it was a stupidly easy one to do, cause I made so many of the damn things....and I've forgotten.

AUGH.

If anyone happens to have those old params - I was still DeepChrome back in the day - I would be much obliged. >_>;; Just shoot 'em over in a response to this journal or in a note. Thank you.

Anyways, here's hoping I get some fractaling legs back under me. This machine's so much beefier than the old one, I have a feeling it'll probably just slam out print-quality renders in hours rather than halves or thirds of whole days. :3

I'll probably continue with the fanart, and possibly get back into digital painting when I'm feeling a little less fried. But I need a new creative venture. I saw some amazing fractal on Tumblr -looked like part ngon, part something. And it's inspired me to come back to fractaling.

Anyways, hope the holiday season finds you all well!

Yes I'm still alive. Just mostly camped out over at my Tumblr. I'm still into Portal, so you'll probably find me reblogging various Portal things and waxing somewhat eloquent on what I like about GLaDOS. Heh. ^^;

I"ll try to post something in the next few days - probably more askagladosfangirl artwork. :D

Anyways - I realized I never thanked the anonymous deviant who gave me the subscription! So I'd like to give a shout-out and a <3 to you! Thank you!

This winter has been pretty mild thus far - only a moderate snowstorm around Christmas. I'm pretty happy with it thus far.

Anyways, hello, and hope you all had a great holiday, and are settling into this January.

I've given up trying to tell what usual is nowadays. Hah.

Christmas did this sneak-up-then-run thing to me. It was still a very nice holiday, but I just wasn't into the spirit this year. Too much going on right now. The house is still a disaster zone. :dead:

I'm rather enjoying tumblr right now. My blog is basically a mashup of Portal fandom and assorted things I've liked enough to replog. I also just got Portal 2, which I'll probably play once the whole New Year's stuff has passed. Steam had it on sale at 14.99 so I figured, what the hell, grab it now. Really looking forward to that (eee GLaDOS eee).

I took another plunge: I now have an ask blog.

askagladosfangirl.tumblr.com. :D

The answers will be art, text, or both, depending on what I feel like, and what questions I get. It's so new I've probably only had what, 3-4 questions so far? I thought it'd be interesting to use a fangirl who's a test subject at an Aperture in an alternate universe where GLaDOS uses Steam to collect new test subjects.

I've left the anonymous option off on the question box for the time being so I can just get used to the system and answering questions first. Once I have a good handle on how I'm doing things, and handling certain questions, I'll take the lid off on anonymous questions and see how things go. :)

On more real fronts, the weather's finally gotten a bit colder. There was a fair number of flurries yesterday. Seems like December has been kind enough to us for now, but January's already itching to make itself known to us. Heh.

I think I might've finally lost a fair amount of my appetite for candy and sweet things. There's only my birthday on the 8th of January to contend with as far as cake and tasty sweets go, then I'm probably going to taper myself back down to something approaching normal food intake again. It's a sad sign when you're craving salads again... >_>;;

I'll continue to post art as time goes on. There's more that probably will pop up independently on my tumblr, and especially the askblog. So if you don't see much from me here, check my tumblr stuff.

That's it for now. May the New Year find you all well. :)

I plan on basically posting arts, reblogging assorted interesting things, and generally just having fun with this.

In the mental pipeline is an Ask a GLaDOS FAngirl askblog. I want to get my feet wet before trying it, mostly because I think it'd be hilarious fun and a great experiment.

I'll occasionally advertise the tumblr in journals here and there. I've just felt like I wanted to move out past using DA as an online presence, and figured a tumblr would be fine. I know I wordvomit too much for twitter, and for all people's raving I don't really get the deal with Facebook.

So tumblr it is.

Hey everyone.

Not much going on this fall thus far. Still got my crazy work schedule, but nothing's new. The only thing new is we're starting to head into holiday shopping season, and I know from last year that my hours as a part-timer start creeping up, and I end up basically living behind a cash register for most of December. Meaning, some of the artwork may slow down, but it won't totally stop. Just....FYI.

But brr, it's getting cold now. O_o Today I saw my breath coming out in clouds on the way to work for the first time since last spring. BRrrrrrr.

My Portal obsession will likely continue for the foreseeable future. For science. Yes, really. You've been warned.

Now if we can just avoid having any more snow anytime soon. That recent storm on the East Coast was.....strange. And it's too early for snow for me. *shivers* And pretty soon we turn our clocks back. Earlier darkness! *shivers again*

Welp. That about covers it. :D

Holy crap when was the last time I updated this thing?!!

Anyways hi everyone - especially to my new watchers who came in via my Portal-themed artwork. Rest assured, I'm still going to do those. The obsession's going strong right now. I'm just fascinated by GLaDOs right now, so those of you who came in on my other interests, you'll have to forgive me. I'll try to get some other stuff or original stuff out eventually. It's just that right now my brain is going eeeePortalPortalPortalPortalPortal and it won't shut up, so I'll just art to appease it. For now.

Summer's been interesting, yet nice so far - I've still got my part-time job at the local grocery store. (There's really not much to say, so I'll leave it at that.) I'm having a rather nice summer despite the heat.

As some of you know, I saved up some work money to get a 21-inch Wacom Cintiq. Wacom was backordered, and to this day I still don't think I've gotten the notification email I subscribed to get from them. :| Anyways, I ordered through Amazon, and they were fantastic, delivering at least a month ahead of the multi-month delivery estimate date. After an interesting saga where I had to replace a defective one in February - Amazon was fantastic about that, too - I got a replacement in March, which was perfect, and I've been absolutely happy with it since. Saving up for a toy you've wanted for years is worth it. Hell it's better than cake! *badumPISH*

The weather has been interesting in my neck of the woods (Northeastern USA) - combination of rainy and smoldering hot. Oof. Walking to work in the heat is not fun, but I can manage.

Anyways, not too much else to report. I just wanted to put something more current up as my journal since the last time I updated it was like ugh forever ago. So there you go.

Hope the summer's finding everyone well.

...since I updated this sucker.

Anyways, not a lot has happened, and yet a lot has happened.

As you know, I've moved back in February. Well, back around late April, I also got a part-time job at the local grocery store. I'm enjoying it, now that I'm more used to it. :)

It took a while for me to adjust more to this very varied schedule (each week the shifts, the days, and the times are a bit different). I'm glad it's part-time, as it gives me time to get into other things when I'm not working. However, it's taken me some time to get my body more used to this equally varied sleeping schedule. Just recently I'm starting to get to where I can handle things at work, and handle things on off-days without feeling burned out.

That means artistic ventures should finally start creeping back up to normal levels in the next month or so. It had better. I'm tired of feeling like I'm on creative hiatus just because my body's needing another 3 hours of sleep or whatever. This job's worth it, though. It's worth it.

So!

On to the other good news. I finally got my newer rig cleaned up and finished off by my computer-ninja brother, so it is now my computer. (He has my old one.) And recently I've re-installed Apo back on it. It took some work, but I've got it about 95% of where I normally have it, minus a couple gradient packs that I need to go grab before the default ones drive me crazy. :D

As you might've noticed, 2 new fractals are up. I had a few mishaps with Vista's (yeah, I'll get to Win7 eventually, but I don't feel like plonking down that much for a new OS just yet) sleep mode killing renders. Just a few days ago, I finally solved that problem, and the computer will properly finish a render. The only issue I'm finding - is anyone else in fractal-land aware of this? - is that Apophysis can no longer turn the computer off when a render finishes. I is sadface. :( Does anyone know of a fix or a script for that? I'd rather not find this poor computer overheated by the time I get up after a night-long render, or some such.

I also have to add that I have made both of the new fractals into prints. I've had prints available for a while, except it seems every time I mention this, it falls on deaf (or penniless) ears. If you guys would like a big canvas print for your living rooms, or to send out greeting cards with a bit of atypical fractal flair, or perhaps get a friend a cool fractal mug - they're all there in my prints shop.

I plan on doing a couple of holiday-themed fractals down the road, so people can get some seasonal-looking stuff. I'm sure my latest one, Autumn Colors, would do well for Thanksgiving and most fall holidays. I just have to get cracking on the Halloween one before we get too far into October. Muahahaha. I'll probably also revive the old Halloween Nebula spacescape tradition, as I've been working with custom brushes and the like in Photoshop, and now can make a much nicer nebula, along with much nicer planets. Stay tuned.

I'll also start putting up some of my Homeworld and other fanarts that I've drawn, but been too lazy to post here. There's also various original line drawings and the like I'd like to put up. So you might see some activity out of me for a change.

I think....that's enough for me. Any longer and this would look like a blogpost. I'm not a blogger by any stretch of the imagination. I might end up a Twitterer, but not a blogger....well, we'll see. I might come up with a blog I could do. :D

Anyways, see you guys around! Hope fall's finding you well.

I moved, and I decided to put off the new computer for a little bit until things settle down and I can get my brother to help me move into it. :D I just need to make a fresh backup of all my stuff in the next few weeks, and I should be good when I get around to doing that.

Anyways the move went very well - but we had to get in a day early because of the coming blizzard on Saturday. So we moved on the Friday and got the last things into the house just as the first flakes fell. Whew!

My mom and I have been organizing, deciding, putting stuff away, etc. I have a new computer desk now - black instead of pale wood, and it looks fantastic, and gives me a lot more room. The monitor is now on a proper eye level that doesn't put a crick in my neck. The old desk had the monitor up on a ledge, and I had to crane my neck upwards a bit to look at it properly.

I have just now gotten Apophysis back in my system - the computer wasn't ventilating very well in the new desk until I moved it slightly to allow more air to get into it. Now that it's doing fine, I can trust it to do a render without overheating. :)  I also need some proper wall art for these walls, as I'm not longer in some half-finished attic studio apartment with kneewalls and slanted ceilings. I have a vibrant purple/seafoam/black scheme, so I'm going to try to make some stuff to go with that.

But first, I need my fractaling feet back under me! Heh. Expect to find me in the Aposhack more often.

Anyways, as you might've noticed, my commenting's gone back up again. Part of this is getting back into the fractals, the other part is the group Unburried-Treasures, which has been providing me some very nice variety of high-quality work in my watchlist. I highly recommend watching these guys if you're sick of the usual "blah" gunk that turns up in galleries or on the main page. They've just gotten started, but look to have a great presence once everything's sorted.

They need volunteers to trawl DA for quality works they can feature. If anybody out there wants to do that, go ahead over to their page and see what you can do to help. :)

On other fronts: Anybody else on the East Coast having some insanely warm weather? Most of this week's been up into the 60s after a long chain of 30 and 40-degree days. It's been fantastic, and surreal at the same time since the trees haven't even started sprouting yet. I feel like we fast-forwarded into April and May without the plants catching up.

Anyways, just so you know - I will continue to add my new fractals to my prints list. If anybody feels like some of my art can go on your wall, feel free to check out my prints shop.

I think that's all for now.

Rock on, DA, rock on. :nirvana:

Back to a normal journal. I miss my pretty skin already. :(

I don't mind - looks like most of the features that I liked in my message center I got to keep as a regular deviant. :)

Anyways, my computer is still a work in progress - and now I'm starting to realize that I have about four weeks to go until I move to a new house (WEE and WHAUGH simultaneously x_X)...and that we were going to pare down to two computers by moving my stuff over to the office computer that my stepdad left behind when he passed away.

So now I'm realizing I somehow have to figure out a case of musical computers, such that I can start pulling all the crap off of it, putting my crap in, and generally getting it to my preferences. I recall trying to chip away at removing programs on it in the past, and it took for-freaking-ever, so I can tell it's going to be a bit of a project.

One idea might be to get my computer-whiz bro to take the data he rescued from my machine, back up any essential data off THAT machine that we'll need, and then clean it out save for the stuff in my data. I have no idea if it'll even work, and I need to talk this out with him, cause I wish I'd figured this out when my puter crapped out....AUUUUGH.

I have 4 weeks in which to figure out what crap is going to get sold as the house is a bit smaller than this one, what crap is gonna stay, and then how to PACK IT ALL.

AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.............

Wish me luck. My deviating will be sporadic until after I'm settled in. The move is slated for February 6th. After that things get to calm down massively...and I can get back to doing Apo, and all kinds of other stuff.

But for right now, RIGHT NOW, between the entire musical computer act, the steady increase of packing....I can't really say what I'm going to be up to in January.

I can tell I'm hitting 2010 running, that's for sure...jeeze.

Hope all is well for everyone, and rock on, DA.

I hope the holidays went well for everyone. They did for me, albeit a little hectically.

Anyways, just an FYI, I will be losing the pretty shiney CSS journal in 3 days. I don't plan to renew the subscription, as the base features have been catching up to what I used to appreciate as subscription features.

I still am set up at RedBubble, although the funds coming from that didn't go so well. Probably just need to put up more fractal T-shirts.

However, I can't do much of anything right now - my normally rock-stable computer developed a rather spectacular chain of problems I tracked down to a borked keyboard, that culminated in it not booting properly to Windows. My brother has it for now, and is wrangling with the hosed Windows to get my data back. He does say he can fix it once he gets that data out, so I'm relatively optimistic.

In the meantime, I will continue to comment on those pieces that grab me on my watchlist, and the occasional DA piece that grabs my attention off the main page or gallery roamings.

So I haven't disappeared entirely. I'm just...mostly in lurkmode. :)

Rock on, DA.

Okay, for those of you who had given me advice on other places to sell my art at:

I've gotten set up at redbubble.com as DeepChrome: www.redbubble.com/people/deepc…

I've got three fractals up as T-shirts, with plans to add a lot more. (The biggest part about redbubble, heh.) It's been a bonus to discover that Apophysis rendering fractals as transparent png files does more than just speed up render time. It makes it obnoxiously easy to transform them into T-shirt designs! :w00t:

I have plans to get myself onto cafepress, and possibly Threadless down the road. Watch this space for details
- I'll definitely update you as I go along. I noticed Cafepress did clocks...would anyone like a fractal clock? :O_o:

Also, for those of you who might not have looked at my journals in a long time - I do have prints available here on DeviantArt. :D It's currently the most diverse of my print shops, so feel free to take a look. That one gets updated every time I put something new on DA.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I was indeed acting on your advice. :D

The fractal lull seems to be back, but I'll try to kick it in the face with something new from my Apo sometime this week. Keep your eyes peeled on my gallery too.

Rock on, DA!

NEED INPUT PLZ

I'm looking at the possibility of selling my prints on sites besides DeviantArt to make some extra money. Anybody know any good sites to supplement my DA Prints Shop with? I've heard some people use sites like Cafepress.

Do you guys know anything about the quality/value/whatever of places like Cafepress? Do you have any favorites? I understand DA's output is very high quality, but I've noticed I don't get that many sales. (Not giving any details, but you can guess why I might try to supplement my Prints Shop....)

For one thing, I've noticed I can't sell T-shirts of my fractals on DA (which makes me wonder if DA should attempt to open up an entire T-shirt market here), and the idea of doing fractal shirts just fascinate me. Other ideas might surface too, if I think longer on this.

This is a sort of mental meandering, really.

I'm also considering opening up commissions (with a few common-sense limits) with reasonable prices that even teenagers can save up for, and people who don't have a whole lot of money can still pay for within reason. They would be digital drawings/paintings, not fractals. I've discovered that I can imitate some art styles, and I'm developing a sort of "comics" style as well. Which really opens up the ability to draw characters, people, etc, upon request. I'm thinking in the $15-$30 dollar range to start with. Would you order one at those prices, or would I be underselling?

Like the title said, I'm just asking for input out of curiosity, to see if these might be worthwhile things to do. :)

Thanks for any ideas you can give me.

...most definitely a while...

...since my last journal entry.

Usually I post one right after I get back from vacation saying I've returned. It not only slipped my mind, but felt kinda not important.

Anyways, things are going all right here. It's been an unusually cold March here. I'm looking forward to a properly 60-degree day in the next week or so. Yeesh. Itching for spring something fierce. Maybe it had something to do with it having actually snowed in Sedona while I was there. While Tucson was nice and summery-warm (for me, anyways, for them, summer is 110 degrees on a regular basis) , Sedona was much cooler, and more wintry. But I've got to say, there's a lot more green in Arizona during the winter.

So that was a pretty awesome vacation. Awesome to the point that we've decided to move there in the next couple months to a year. I don't know how it's going to work out, but we're going to make it work out.

Moving on....anybody else having colder weather than usual for the beginning of spring? I swear winter is hanging on like one of those three-week colds that just won't leave.

Speaking of colds, I've got a minor one. Nowhere near as nasty as some of the bugs I've had in the past, and I seem to be doing all right with this one. I have most of my brainpower and sense of smell intact. All I seem to do is just blow my nose often and sleep more. That's it. I figure I should be done with it by the weekend or early next week. However, I do have to say I've probably sneezed more in this cold than any three combined. Oy. What's up with that?!

Last but most definitely not least, I want to remind you people that I do have a prints shop and I've enabled as many variations of prints as I could: mugs, magnets, puzzles, etc. Please take a look - I've added all my new fractals to it. That includes Spring Glory, Saturday Night Fever, and Swirled II. Even if you don't buy a print, maybe you know someone who would? :D

I'm definitely back to fractaling again. It's kind of fun giving new life to old parameters, and twisting them into new, cool things. I'll probably keep up with that as the param-pong seems a little slow (or nonexistent?) whenever I turn up at Aposhack of late.

That's it for now. I'll try to update this thing more often these days, but we'll see how that goes.

OH GOD I HAVE TO PACK OH SHIT WHERE'S MY SANDALS I CAN'T FORGET MY TOOTHBRUSH OH CRAP

Got a two-week vacation coming up in Arizona. I leave on Wednesday the 4th. Looks like I come back on Tuesday the 17th.

It also looks like it'll be in the 60s and 70s out there. WOO! I'm so very sick of snow, ice, and bland landscapes right now. :|

So you won't likely see any comments or much of anything else from me for a while. I don't know if the place I'm going to has internet. Most times when I go on vacation, nothing has a net connection. :p

Anyways, just wanted to let y'all know in case I suddenly seem to drop off the planet.

I'm trying out the new Deviant Page features, and I've got to say, WOW. Very nice setup and it makes working my page a whole lot easier, and much more flexible.

Thank you, DA! :D

On another note: I know this is late, but I want to report that my Christmas and New Year passed without a hitch. Well for me, anyways. My mom and stepdad got sick on the Monday before New Year's Eve--stepdad with the flu, Mom with a stomach bug. We got to have pork and sauerkraut at home (one of those weird Pennsylvanian traditions), along with mashed potatoes, and some Boston Cream Pie. So it wasn't a total loss. I didn't get too much cause I plan on going to Arizona sometime in Feburary and buying some rather cool stones at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. WEEE. It's kind of a 30th Birthday thing. :D

Anyways, moving on to other topics.

I'm back to a rather massive fractal lull. One of these days it'll open up again, but meh. I'll just ride it through until Apo re-inspires me again. :) Seems to also apply to art of almost any kind. I have one or two digi-doodles I may post soon, but we'll see.

Also, anybody notice that this winter is a bit weirder than most? It's been snowier than usual, and I've had a couple straight days of bitter cold weather hovering between 5 and 20 degrees Farenheit. :| Brrrr. It's finally lightened back up to the 10s to 40s, but blearh. COLD.

I finally got to see the second half of Superman Returns on FOX Movies the other night. Need to catch it again sometime to get the beginning. The movie was actually cooler than I was given the impression of by friends, earlier. Besides, who can not love those pretty Kryptonian crystals Luthor got his hands on? (The ones he had wrapped up in a cloth.)

I'm now running redesign ideas for Supergirl through my head...again. You guys can see my one pass at her in my gallery (One of these days I have to finish sorting it. ARG. Stuff to do.). Now I want to do one better, and a bit classier. Mind, I did grow up on the Helen Slater flick which was something of an insult to the Supergirl premise. At least Argo City, the Omegahedron, and Supergirl's costume looked awesome for the timeframe. Would love to see Hollywood revisit her with some much superior writing. Let's just hope they don't tart her up too much. She's supposed to be an All-American Girl, not some pedo's wet dream. :|

I'll get around to sorting my gallery one of these days. No idea when. I'm just lazy right now.

Oh, and 25,005 views last I looked! OMG WOW! :faint: Thank you to all my watchers and visitors. :)

I think that's about it for now. May January go well for everyone.

Rock on, DA.

I submitted a couple of thumbs of print-made deviations to Sophquest's  Deviant Appreciation Day contest, and wound up featured! :w00t: Thanks to her, I now have a one year sub, and a very nice feature.

So it looks like the CSS, stamps, and all, are going to stick around a while after all. :bounce: I'm more than happy with that, after all the effort it took to get the CSS working. Sometime I gotta see about centering the stamps in the footer (anyone know the code for that?) , but for now I'll just add some and leave it be. No real intention to get all big and fancy with the CSS, especially after I got it working... :paranoid:

The weather has calmed down a lot out here...not quite so hot. I've had a few rainy days, and a couple of nice, cool, yet sunny days out here. It's good to see fall turn up, although this summer for me, was pretty mild and tolerable. The temps barely broke past 90 on the hottest days.

I'm still on a good fractaling bent. It feels nice knowing I can just put something together, render it, and have something nice to put up the next day (or next few days, depending on my mood), and that this will keep going.

Not much else to say, I guess. It's just a quiet Sunday afternoon right now.

Peace out.

And now for the Stamps.

Yeah, now that the CSS is in good shape, I decided to go stamp-hunting. The last one I made by myself, so chances are you will see a few more Chrome-made stamps before I'm over that phase. :giggle:

If anybody watching me has a sub and wants a stamp, hit me up in here. I've got templates, and should be able to slap some nice ones together.

On a side note, the weather has cooled down tremendously of late. I'm rather enjoying having the windows open, and feeling cool air coming in instead of hot.

Ipsum lorem, yada yada.

Just some more CSS testing, as the graphic seems to still be absent. Grr.

So I'm just trying to give this some more space, and see if this all works out.

The story has been insane as far with CSS, but I've got to give kudos to #h3lp and electricjonny who has been nothing but patient with me and my collection of newbie mistakes. :)

And still, the weather is awesome! Windows are staying open, it's cool outside.

I have to vacuum tomorrow. Bleah. :|

****

EDIT: CSS is finally fixed! :w00t: Again, much love to electricjonny for his help! Basically this was from scratch with a CSS tutorial by someone named S_Que, that I found on DA with Search. But the fractal, of course, is mine (built from my Fractal Taffy piece). :D

Stamps I Love!

Need text now, hahaha. After all the fixes, and a lot of help from electricjonny I managed to get this working somewhat.

Just need to fix the top graphic somewhat. :D
